Because typing WTBS is as much effort as I can muster to refer to the org, the extra letter, just can't do it.

"I can't stop thinking about Jehovah's Witnesses!"
by logansrun ini've heard this said by a few ex-witnesses in my three years away from the organization, and have sometimes said it myself.
sometimes it is said in the context of, "i'd like to move on, but i just can't stop thinking about them.
could it not be that one of the reasons ex-jws "can't stop thinking about" the organization -- and their past involvement with it -- is that they daily log onto this site, read about the society and talk about them?

Logan, I think you made some excellent observations though I believe that the reasons people come here are as many and varied as their stories. I think this forum is like anything else, some people may stay a short while, while others might never leave and as long as its not unhealthy that's fine. I think for many this place is sort of like a VFW post, where people with a shared experience can sit around and socialize and feel comfortable because of that shared experience. They can rant about the WBTS it if they want or talk about something completely unrelated, but there is always that underlying common experience tying them together. Taking a break once in a while, good advice regarding just about anything, work, school, etc. I also agree that if coming to this site is keeping a person from moving on in their life, then possibly it isn't healthy for them and they should eliminate it. From what I have seen in my couple of months here most have moved on with their lives, but find some value in posting here for whatever reasons. It seems very common as well with many support groups that people that have gone through the process often become counselors or volunteers to help others and there is obvious value to that.
As for treating others the way you would like to be treated, excellent advice. I have done that with my family which are mostly still JW's, but I find that they are not nearly as tolerant when I mention what I did over the holidays as they expect me to be when they talk about going to assemblies or make derogatory comments about other faiths or individuals. Just my experience there.

Welcome Evita, please accept my sympathies for your loss. I think you will find those here very supportive and understanding of what you are going through. Please stay awhile and get to know everyone.

They just don't make Dubs like they used to! Seriously, I don't know that the quality was ever that high, I always felt like most of the folks at our hall were at least a little off, either not very bright or disturbed. I can't remember one person that went to the hall when I was growing up that had any eduation or that was particularly bright or that didn't seem to be at least mildly eccentric. And as has been pointed out, when you discourage education and dumb everything down how can you expect to attract anyone with anything mildly going on in the brainpan? I mean, I can just imagine giving a Watchtower or Awake to one of my professors and having them read it. After they got done laughing I think they would say that it was written on about a 5th grade level. Also, anyone of any moral integrity or honor has to see what is going on in the org and have a serious problem with it. I think the ones that are bright and well adjusted that stay in the org (if that's possible) do so as to be a prince in hell rather than a servant in heaven, they can pretty much run the show.

JW's and Material Love
by JH in1 john 2:15
15 do not be loving either the world or the things in the world.
if anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him; 16 because everything in the world?the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the showy display of one?s means of life?does not originate with the father, but originates with the world.

I remember someone once made the comment to me that you don't have to have things to be materialistic, rather it is a state of mind. Sort of the distinction of loving money being the root of evil, rather than the money itself.

ROFLMAO. God I can't stop laughing. People were so freaking ugly and uncool in the 70's it wasn't even funny. Good Christ what a bunch of nimrods. Yeah, I lived through the 70's and I can't say I am in any hurry to relive it. The only caveat to that was that from 1975 to 1980 some of the greatest music ever made was put down.

"Meat in due season" or some such shit like that (been out a long time, can't remember if I have it exactly right). Always made me think that us folks in the KH were like a pack of mongrel dogs that the GB would toss some raw freakin bloody meat to once in awhile to keep us from howling all night long and keeping them awake.

Hey Ring, welcome to the forum! I hear you about the double standard. One of my ongoing rants is how the WBTS just hates kids, seems they had good examples to follow in that department.
